Our story
Our name drives our mission.
Our name is drawn from the Hawaiian: ‘to be our best selves, and lift others to be theirs’. At Maikai, we are tackling the problem that runs through every community: too many people cut off from good work and the skills that lead to it.
We believe everyone deserves access to a good job and the education that leads to opportunity.
That’s why we exist.
We're here to break down barriers, bridge the skills gap and create pathways to lifelong learning and meaningful work.
Since 2020, we’ve worked with businesses and organisations on their greatest strength: their people.
We also work with young people outside education and employment, creating funded apprenticeship roles where none existed.
Whether that means using digital, data and AI to help people do their current jobs better, or building new skills that open a different path, the aim is the same: good, meaningful work.
The bigger picture.
Our work focuses on future-ready skills so that everyone can thrive in this rapidly changing world. It is a fast-moving field, so we stay close to the people and institutions shaping it: grounded in UNESCO’s guidance and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and guided by the World Economic Forum’s Skills for Life agenda, which aligns education with work and opportunity. With more than 50% of young people at risk of lacking work-ready skills by 2030, we’re acting now, rolling out national programmes for educators, employers and learners that lead to qualifications and jobs.
