Sport

Young people trust their clubs and foundations in a way they rarely trust formal employment schemes.

What we do

We work in sport in three ways. First, we build grassroots capacity. Community sport organisations are community businesses at heart, and funded training lets them scale the social impact they are creating. Second, we work with professional clubs and major sports institutions and use their levy to develop key staff, strengthen their community foundations and support the networks around them. This includes partners in the women's game, where participation is growing faster than funding is available. Third, young people: First Rung, our programme for those not in education, employment or training, is built on the trust that clubs hold. We engage a young person through the club, then build a funded pathway into good work. The club holds the relationship with the young person; Maikai manages everything in the background. Employer partners gift levy that funds the training, tailored to the vacancies identified with local employers. Funding that would have expired instead trains people, driving community cohesion alongside future prosperity.

How we do it

The club holds the relationship with the young person; Maikai manages everything behind it. Employer partners gift levy that funds the training, and local employers shape it around their vacancies and take on the graduates. Funding that would have expired instead trains people, driving community cohesion alongside future prosperity.
